Today was mostly about getting back to San Francisco and enjoying our last night there. We checked out of the hotel in Lodi, passing through miles and miles of vineyards.
It was pretty uneventful for the most part apart from Google Maps being a bit laggy which meant we sometimes missed exits off the freeway. We drove through San Jose and Winchester on the way, two places we’ve not visited before.
San Jose was difficult to get through because of roadworks, so we didn’t stop. Winchester looked lovely but because of all of the previous hassle we continued on to SF.
After a couple of hours on some pretty busy freeways, we entered the city. I had to drive up some scary hills in San Fran once we’d got through the congestion. There are some roads where you can’t actually see what is ahead of you when you get to the top, you pretty much have to go for it. We got through unscathed and got to the hotel no problem. Our valet was great when we arrived and he asked us where we were from. As most people haven’t heard from where we actually live, we usually say “Northern England”. This guy wanted to know exactly where we were from and JC said near Leeds. He then asked about football and whether we supported Leeds Utd. We said no, we didn’t because we lived near Hull. He then asked us if we supported Hull City!! He’s from San Fran and has heard of Hull City!! Well chuffed with that.
Once we’d checked in we went to a very busy Boudin for a late lunch of clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl. It was lovely as always. We then decided to go for a bit of a wander and because it was bright sunshine rather than fog, see if we could find a good spot to take some photos, particularly of the Golden Gate Bridge. We walked along Jefferson Street, towards Beach Street and then headed to the Municipal Pier. We’d never been there before so it was nice to get a different view of the Bay Area and the skyline of San Fran. We saw a few different types of birds including pelicans, herring gulls and cormorants.

We headed back towards the hotel to get ready for going out for our tea. The hotel offered a happy hour which was free wine/beer between 5-6pm so we went down to the foyer to make the most of that ha ha!!
Tea was booked at the Scoma’s restaurant, following a recommendation from a friend of ours. This restaurant was a typical seafood establishment, which is situated on Pier 47. This a beautiful setting overlooking San Francisco Bay. Everything was lovely and fresh as you would expect.
We took some photos of the San Franciscan sunset as we left. We then went back to the hotel to drink some fizz and listen to some vinyl which is provided in the hotel room, an uncommon but nice feature. The perfect end to our holiday.
