Monday morning started ok, with a bit of a lie-in. We had a great view of San Marco basin from our room, with San Georgio Maggiore church tower in the distance. It was a beautiful day.

We had to check out of Hotel Paganelli by 11:00, so packed and left our bags downstairs. We weren’t particularly hungry but went for chichetti at a local cafe bar. There were plenty of choices but I went for mortadella with habanero which the server warned me about. It wasn’t that spicy, I was ok. JC went for salami topped with mushroom.

We stood outside whilst we ate and then went off to another cafe, where we could get seated, for a quick hot drink.
Venice was already at 27 degrees Celsius and although I was wearing light travelling clothes, my bottom half was black. Not the best choice but never mind.
We didn’t have a great deal of time to spend in Venice anyway. The recommended time to transfer to the airport via water bus was two hours. Working backwards from flight check-in time, this meant leaving the San Marco San Zaccaria gate at 12:00. The closest was 11:56 so we got that.

We’d pre-booked the tickets the day before for €15 per person. It was a flexible ticket as you don’t have to commit to a time, which worked for us.
The Alilunga water bus stopped at quite a few places between the islands of Venice and got us to Marco Polo airport terminal at about 13:15, so way too early. When we’d finally found out where the BA check-in desk would be when it opened, we managed to find a couple of seats to wait it out.
Check-in opened at around 14:30 so we joined the queue. It took quite some time to get through but it was no bother and headed for the lounge.
Long story short, the flight left on time, and pretty much arrived at London Heathrow as scheduled. It was just a long journey back, especially when the M62 is closed but hey ho, we got home eventually.
